EXXLAN DIESEL PERFORMANCE BENEFITS

METHOD OF ANALYSIS FOR EXXLAN DIESEL IN DIESEL FUEL

General Approach :

    As the typical amount of EXXLAN DIESEL in diesel is quite small (less than 1000 parts per million), some type of concentration technique is recommended to separate EXXLAN DIESEL from other components. The normal approach is to use a silica gel chromatographic method to separate EXXLAN DIESEL and other similar naturally-occurring materials from the fuel, and then to characterize and quantitatively analyze the extracted material using Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) comparison to a standard EXXLAN DIESEL sample.

Apparatus

  5. Standard samples of EXXLAN DIESEL

Procedure :

    Approximately eight grams of fuel are introduced to the chromatographic column of silica gel-62. The colume is then washed with 300ml methanol. The methanol fraction is collected. The column is then washed with an additional 300ml petroleum ether, which is also collected. The petroleum ether and methanol extracts are evaporated on a hot plate to yield a viscous residue.

    The residue is taken up in 510ml of n-heptane and quantitatively analyzed by FT-IR at about 1700 cm-1 for carbonyl absorption. The carbonyl absorption are compared to a standard, which by a read-off relates to the concentration of EXXLAN DIESEL in diesel fuel.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

EXXLAN DIESEL is multi-functional diesel additive package containing a detergent, a demulsifier, lubricity improver, anti corrosion and an antifoam agent. Adding a good additive package such as EXXLAN DIESEL to diesel fuel improves the performance and handling characteristics of the fuel. An additized diesel fuel can keep the engine running at its designed efficiency conditions by keeping the injectors clean and reducing premature wear of the fuel pumps and injectors.

Because the tip of the injectors protrude into the combustion chamber a thin layer of coke may form on the walls and other parts of the nozzles. The coke can have a disruptive affect on the spray pattern, injection timing and droplet distribution. This results in cold starting problem, misfiring, increased exhaust emissions and higher fuel consumption. Adding a good detergent is an effective solution to preventing deposit formation as well as removing detrimental deposits already formed with non-additized fuel.

The role of antifoam agent is to help prevent foam formation of the diesel fuel. It works by preventing air from being encapsulated in the diesel as air bubbles as the diesel is being pumped into the fuel tank of the vehicle.
